A free four-week residential summer program open to New York City high school juniors. Our summer seminar is taught by Columbia faculty with readings centered around the themes of “Freedom” and “Citizenship.” Authors include Plato, Thucydides, John Locke, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois, John Dewey, and Martin Luther King, Jr. During the academic year, students come to Columbia’s campus weekly for college application assistance and to undertake a civic engagement project on a topic of their choice. This year’s topics include human trafficking, domestic violence, immigration, refugees, gentrification, and mass incarceration.
